Reasoned approach

A reasoned approach to pest management.

Fewer assumptions, more discernment: understand the problem, reduce favourable conditions and consider the measures best suited to the context.

Our direction

More prevention. Measured intervention.

SGP seeks to prioritize preventive measures, exclusion, sanitation, monitoring and physical methods when relevant. If a product is needed, the objective is to use it in a targeted manner appropriate to the situation.

When the target organism, premises and registered uses allow, certain biopesticides may be considered. This possibility is assessed case by case; it is not a promise that the same type of product will suit every intervention.

The decision

Five filters before selecting a method.

The choice is not based solely on a product’s origin. It must also be effective, permitted for the intended use and compatible with the conditions of the mandate.

01

Identify

Confirm the pest and the available physical signs.

02

Prevent

Reduce access to water, food, shelter and other contributing factors.

03

Compare

Assess appropriate physical, mechanical, biological or chemical measures.

04

Target

Limit the intervention to the areas and uses that are actually indicated.

05

Follow up

Observe changes and adjust the next step when necessary.

Biopesticides

A regulated option, not a simple marketing claim.

In Canada, pest-control products presented as biological, natural, environmentally friendly or as biopesticides remain pest-control products and are subject to applicable requirements.

A product of natural origin is therefore not automatically risk-free. Its registration number, permitted uses, precautions and label directions must be followed.

Our commitment to clarity

What is proposed should be understandable.

Before

Understand the situation, explain the options and confirm the scope.

During

Apply the agreed method carefully and according to applicable directions.

After

Provide recommendations and clarify the planned follow-up.

Take the next step

Describe the problem before choosing the solution.

A reasoned approach begins with the pest, the premises and the signs actually observed.
